Navarra

Navarra was established as D.O. (“Denominación de Origen“) in 1932, and it is one of the oldest D.O.’s in Spain. It is located to the East of neighbour Rioja, in the Navarra province. Probably you know Navarra from “running the bulls” a festivity that takes place every year in its capital, Pamplona. This D.O. has the influence of two climates: Continental in its Western side and Mediterranean in its Eastern side. Therefore, vineyards (and wines) can be quite different depending on which sub-region they come from.

Despite having had a reputation for producing some of the best rosé wines in Spain (and somewhat categorize itself as a Rosé-only region) Navarra is also capable of offering quality reds and whites. Actually, some of the most interesting Garnacha-based reds in Spain are currently produced in Navarra.
