Mas d’en Blei

Mas d’en Blei (“Mas” means countryside farmhouse in Catalan) is a modern winery located in La Morera, a small town of the prestigious Priorat D.O.Ca. wine region in southern Catalonia. They recovered the old stone farmhouse that dated back from 1756 and planted close to 20,000 vines around it. The whole state has roughly 17.5 hectares of land and is surrounded of magnificent nature and idyllic landscapes (check photos below). The first vines were planted in 2006 of traditional indigenous varieties of the Priorat: Garnacha and Cariñena/Samsó. What is curious and original from Mas d’en Blei is the fact that they grow and elaborate Garnacha Blanca (White Grenache), a quality white varietal not much seen in Priorat, which is the backbone for their Clos Martina wine.

Part of its vineyards are planted over black slate, the typical Priorat terroir known as “Llicorella” in Catalan, which confer wines in this region with some mineral characteristics in most occasions.
